Important Safety Tip: Leaving Messages
If your name is anything less common than "John Smith" and you leave a voice message for someone who does not know you and is not expecting your call, it is generally a good idea to spell your name. This is even more helpful in the event that you happen to have an accent which might make getting your name on the first try difficult. Finally, assuming that you would like the person receiving the message to return your call, it is advisable that you include somewhere in the message your own phone number. In practice, your message should go something like this:
"Hi Arthur, my name is Zaphod Beeblebrox.* That's Zaphod -- Z-A-P-H-O-D -- Beeblebrox -- B-E-E-B-L-E-B-R-O-X. I'm going to be passing through your orbit next week and I'd like to speak with you about some business I have there. I'd appreciate it if you could call me back, at your convenience. My number is 555-555-5555. Thank you."

I'd say that, for most of his life, Arthur did not know Zaphod, and for a long time after meeting him (Zahpod), Arthur thought his (Zaphod's) name was Phil. So spelling the name might not be inappropriate.

Good point. I always get confused when someone whose name isn't Phil gets called Phil a lot.

especially if said Phil didn't have two heads and an extra arm at the time...
