British Background Beats: Paper Writing Music
I'm buried neck-deep in the 14th Amendment, the different views of technology represented in Bush v. Gore, and the siginficance of those views for the current debates about voting technology. The aforementioned Gotan Project, along with Erlend Oye and other similar jazz, lounge, and downtempo electronic music are great for outlining or doing background research, but when it comes time to write, I need a bigger beat. It's all about momentum. Today, it's Original Pirate Material by the Streets, and Ego War by the Audio Bullys.

"Don't Mug Yourself" . . . my new favorite song for running through the streets of Manhattan in the opposite direction of people traffic.

An apt choice. I catch on to music trends pretty late, filtered and distilled by various music snob friends (the sort who take that term as a compliment), so I only started listening to the Streets recently. Phenomenal. Oddly, the music is equally good for working out and studying, which is rare.
