"So I have a blog now...."

That's what I wrote exactly 4 years ago. First post! I never migrated the earliest posts from Blogger to Movable Type, so you can't see the first 11 months. I promise you're not missing very much. There was a lot of angst about work, a lot of stuff about getting laid off, being unemployed, reading other blogs, moving to Boston, and a lot of "this is what i had for lunch. and then i did this. and then i did that." (for example, 2 consecutive posts about losing and finding the remote control) -- the sort of thing that generally turns me off of any personal weblog I read now. In the early days, I posted far more frequently, but had very little to say. Now I have things to say, but rarely find the time and energy to say them the way I'd like. This leaves gaps of weeks between posts, when before I had gaps of minutes. Which is better? For you to decide, I guess.

I was a law school blogger before it was cool common. I had been blogging for a year and a half before I started school, and writing about school was the obvious thing to do, though I've strayed from it a lot. I think I got half the readers I had simply by being one of the first, so every new entry linked to me. Now I'm small potatoes and have few readers (and would have fewer were it not for the beauty of RSS). The transition from writing for a small group of friends to an audience of strangers to an audience of classmates and back to just friends was not always easy. It's an odd cycle, but I'm fine with how it is now.

This site is a chronicle of my life over 4 years. If you know me well, you can read far more about me than the mere words on the screen; sometimes more than I wish to disclose, but that's the nature of expository writing I think.

Although I post rarely and with inconsistent quality, I enjoy having the outlet, and appreciate that you take the time to stop by and read. I'd like to offer you readers something in addition to the incredible, earth-shattering orgasmic joy you already get from the 5-10 minutes you spend reading this site every month free of charge. Click on and get yourself something tasty.

I bake a lot. I've even mentioned that a number of times over the past few years. These days I bake at least once a week. I'd like to share some of that with those of you who read what I have to say.

I will send cookies to the first 5 people* who email buddha [at] jewishbuddha [dot] org with the following information:
1. How long you've been reading jewishbuddha.org.
2. How you found jewishbuddha.org.
3. Your favorite post on the site. (if you remember it but can't find it, just tell me about it... I remember them all quite well).
4. A topic you would like me to write about or a question you would like me to answer in a future post.

After I get the emails, I'll let you know if you win. That way you don't have to reveal your name and address unless you're getting cookies in the mail.

Thank you for your support.

* Yeah, I'm a bit ambitious in assuming I'll get more than two responses, but what the hell. I got rid of 20 gmail invites, so I can probably unload some cookies.

JewishBuddha cookies should have a Zen koan and/or a yiddish proverb inside and names like TorahBites and ChocoDharma. Or maybe Matzaless Heaven, GoyNut, or even Raisined by Monks. ChutzpahChip! MarshmellowMench!

ok, I'll stop now.

"This isn't 'Nam, Smokey, there are rules." Comments are appreciated, but they don't win prizes.

And I don't think I could ever eat a product called "GoyNut".

Didn't you get my email entry?

Posted by: shoepal at March 17, 2005 12:35 PM

No. Two emails re: Tokyo, but nothing regarding how much you love reading my web site and eating my cookies.

weird. I've since forwarded them to your gmail account. I did however send them to the aforementioned appropriate entry email address. Weird.

Problem solved... my mail forwarding and aliasing for this domain weren't working right. I had 600+ messages in an email box I've never checked. Of those, about 5 mattered.

Glad I could be of service.
