Just What I Need: the Ire of Secret Elite Leadership

A group of my friends has had an ongoing email conversation about papal names for the last few days,* which finally prompted someone to ask, "Who is Covington billing for all this time?"** I suggested the Catholic Church, but was informed that Covington can not represent the Church due to conflict of interest because, get this, "Covington & Burling . . . is a firm that represents many of the Illuminati in Washington, D.C."

"Just Google for 'Covington & Burling Illuminati'" my friend said.

If you believe in the extistence of secret cabals like the Illuminati (or Google or Covington, for that matter), running that search seemed like a bad idea. But curiosity got the better of me. Fascinating. A lot of my recreational reading in the last year has, through no focused effort of my own, covered various aspects of secret societies, conspiracies, and the like, so there's an added level of creepiness.

* For our Passover seder on Saturday night, somone decided that everyone needs a papal name. We were given this list and instructed to pick a name that has already been used, but to correct the numbering. Many people added additional titles (e.g. "the Great"). I am His Holiness, Pope Conon II, the Destroyer. Pope Conon I (the Barbarian) served from 686-687.
** Not really that much time.

the bilderberg group, dude, it's all about the bilderberg group...google them and covington. scary stuff.

The Bilderberg group is real(ish), but I think they mostly just sit around and have tea and crumpets. No crazy all-seeing third-eye sort of stuff. Compare the search results for Illuminati with those for Bilderberg Group. I'd say there's more than a Christmas's worth of fruitcake more worried about the former than the latter.

Beware the Stonecutters.

And also check out "Them," by Jon Ronson.

I was once told that Illuminati had chosen the last 63 U.S. presidents. Of course, every part of that sentence is clearly accurate. If i told you who told me, I'd have to kill you.
