Recent Kitchen Activity
I'm not as dilligent as Raffi, Will, and friends about documenting what I do in the kitchen, but I have actually been cooking quite a bit this semester. It's mostly baking, as I am committed to at least one batch of cookies per week, but I also managed a multicourse dinner party for a dozen friends and a few other feats. Now that the weather is nice, we've also been grilling two-three nights a week.
Here's a list of some of what I've been up to:
Sweets: chocolate chip cookies, ginger snaps, oatmeal cinnamon raisin cookies, M&M cookies, butterschotch almond cookies, snickerdoodles, caramel chocolate chunk brownies, peanutbutter cookies, double chocolate cookies with hazelnuts and toffee, chocolate cherry biscotti, white chocolate hazelnut & toffee biscotti.
"Pan-Mediterranean" dinner for 12: roasted red pepper & garlic hummus and olive tapenade with pita chips, herbed beef skewers, caprese salad, avgolemono soup, moussaka, couscous with apricots and cherries, mint lemon asparagus, onion & rosemary focaccia, and the chocolate cherry biscotti mentioned above. Plus bottles upon bottles of wine.
Other: Meatballs in green herb sauce, parmesan risotto, chili, beef stew, tom yum soup, various stir fries and fritattas (easy to cook for 3-4 people fairly quick).
On innauguration day, we celebrated with a church party. My roommate did the majority of the cooking, but it went something like this: Country ham and red-eye gravy, biscuits, grits, scambled eggs, home fries, Irish coffee, bloody mary, and mimosas. By the time the Chief Justice had administered the oath and W had given a speech, we had a house full of very well-fed, very intoxicated people. That's an innauguration.
